Seiichi, your cat is not on my nice list right now. He's knocked down some very priceless artifacts off the mantle, and one of them is even more cracked than it was to begin with. Thank god that was in a Plexiglas case or it and the case would have shattered. Needless to say, he'd best hide from me for a day or two if he doesn't want nasty looks.

Happy bleated birthday, Atobe. Time seems to have gotten away from me in the last few days.

 Some people's kids.

On my way to go teach a lab session, I had to break up a fist fight between two freshmen boys in the hallway. Apparently, one of them looked at the other one wrong, or some such nonsense. And, of course, they wouldn't listen to me shouting for them to break it up, so I had to get physical. Good thing I learned some aikido along with my kendo. I didn't even leave a mark on either one, even though I wanted to slam their heads together and knock sense into the morons.

Seiichi, I've named your cat. He is now Loki.

I walked in this morning, dead tired, to strange noises in the kitchen. I went to investigate, and caught him knocking cans of cat food out of the cabinet and onto the floor so that he could lay on the shelf. Mind you, this is a cabinet above the counter. I'm thinking we need to child proof the kitchen.

I'm glad the summer heat has finally broken, though I could do without the wind. And the leaking window in my tiny office on campus. Every time the wind blows the rain at the window, my back and my desk get sprayed. It got so bad, I finally broke down and duct taped a tarp over the damn thing, now the water can just ruin the paint on the wall and the sheet-rock instead of my work computer and important paperwork.

And now the Spain dig has been canceled completely. Funding fell through, or some other excuse. Just great. I guess I'd better get to work on some proposals for digs of my own or I'm going to be stuck at a desk until spring. I just hope the weather is still nice enough in early December to do some work in Hokkaido. Otherwise I'll have to try for Sekigahara, which is really such a hardship considering what a fan of history I am.

So the Spain trip has been delayed. Fabulous. *sigh* Thank god I was able to exchange my ticket for a later date so I can stay here and get more work done before I go. I'm getting a lot of sketches done, which is nice, but I still need to help look over the article that the sketches go with. The primary writer of the article is Swiss, so I need to translate and proofread the final article for Japanese publication. But considering it hasn't shown up in my inbox yet, I'm not too worried about it just yet. If I haven't gotten that by the end of next week, then I'll worry.

I swear all I've done since I got home is work on articles for publication. At least I have an office to keep most of my things in, so I don't have to commandeer the living room for all my reference materials and fragments. I've spent so much time staring at my computer screen, I think I might need reading glasses soon. I fear I'm going cross-eyed.

I have to admit, it's been a nice change being home. The underwater dig near where Pompeii used to be is fascinating, but being on dry land and in my own country is a good change. Though I do need to start practicing my Spanish again, I suppose. I have a month, but still, no sense putting it off.
